Custom Home   Vienna

The owners originally chose this lot home for its close proximity to downtown Vienna and reputation of nearby schools but the existing house was beginning to lack the space for the needs of their growing family.  The new house maximizes the available area on the site for a new open main level plan.  New rooms include additional bedrooms, a larger master bedroom suite with connected library that share a two-sided fireplace, four additional bedrooms including guest bedroom in basement, basement recreation room with wet bar and an open living/gourmet kitchen space on the first floor.

A two-story entry foyer and central stair allows south west light to illuminate the central walls of the house on two sides, one tall wall complete with recessed niche for mosaic of artwork to be displayed.

In terms of the house's exterior, our goal from the beginning was for the house to match the character, aesthetics and (exceed) the value of other nearby homes but also to have its own unique sense of beauty through an elegant balance of proportion in its parts.  The design takes advantage of its position and visibility on the corner of two streets by balancing the proportion of windows and prominent roof lines on two sides, and further breaking up the mass, its wrap-around porch, a common regional feature, also helps to visually tie the two sides together around the corner.
